Motorcycle Jeans – Essential tips for the perfect fit!

7th Jun 2019

Time and time again, you will see riders travelling on their bike with a helmet, jacket and gloves but still wearing a pair of their old favourite jeans. They may be comfortable, but they certainly aren’t safe and won’t protect you in the event of a crash. The bottom half of your body is just as important as the rest so it’s crucial to find a well-made pair of motorbike jeans that fit you well!

Measuring up for size

Sizing up for your jeans is straight forward! Firstly, measure around your waist as you would do with a normal pair of pants. You will also need to measure your inside leg using a soft tape measure. Make sure you lay it flat against your leg and run it from your crotch down to the ankle bone.

Standard leg lengths do vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, so it is always best to check their specific sizing charts (that you can find on our Sizing Chart page). You will also need to consider how you wear the jeans, whether it’s on the hips or your wait as your leg length will depend on that also.

Choosing the right style for you

As well as looking as slick as some of the top racers, leather jeans gives you the ultimate protection against the elements, especially when fitted with CE approved armour for your hips and knees, making them perfect for the sportier type of rider. However, if you ride all year round, particularly colder months, leathers can get cold and aren’t waterproof, which in this instance, a pair of textiles would be better suited.

Leather jeans give you the best protection when they are well fitted. Unless you wear a base layer underneath, these types of jeans tend to be worn without anything underneath. The reason behind this is to stop the armour from twisting in the event of an accident. Textile jeans are usually baggier than leathers as the materials used don’t stretch but will protect better the closer you buy to your true size.

The next thing to check is how the jeans do up around the waist, both materials are quite heavy! They usually either do up using Velcro, belt loops or some do have braces. You need to make sure you choose the best fastening for you – after all, you don’t want them falling down! Adjustable waists are also an alternative to ensure the jeans stay up.

The leg length also needs to be the right length for your boot; leather is usually worn inside the boots whereas textiles are worn out to ensure heat is kept in. Remember! Jeans should look longer when standing, they’re designed to protect you when in the riding position.

Getting the fit right for you

Once you’ve bought the pair for you, it is always worth testing the fit by sitting on your bike. Once in the correct position, they should fit snugly but make sure they don’t cut in at the waist, bunch up behind your knees or around your hips and that they are long enough to cover your ankles.

If you find, that after following all the above advice and taking the time to check the look and feel for it, that your new motorbike jeans from Superbike Factory is not the right size, please remember that there is a 30-day return policy!
