Motorcycle boots have just as important a job as the rest of your gear when riding your bike. They need to keep you protected from the elements and crashes as well as being comfortable to wear for potentially long journeys. Of course, you’ll want them to be stylish too!
Finding the right size for your motorcycle boots can be a tricky task – especially when buying biker boots online. Take a look at the best way to measure for the perfect size and choosing the right style of boots for your ride.
How to Measure to Find Your Motorcycle Boot Size
In general, it is best to start off with your standard shoe or boot size when it comes to sizing your feet for motorbike boots. If your foot measurement is between sizes or you have one foot larger than the other (which is quite common!) you will need to think about going up a size, especially if the style is a sports motorbike boot. As well as the size of your foot, consider the width of your foot as many Italian boots tend to be narrower than other makes!
Ladies’ feet tend to be smaller in size than men’s, as well as being differently shaped in the leg – especially around the calf. With this in mind, many brands have a specific ladies range designed to be a much better fit and thus more comfortable for a female rider. There are even high heeled alternatives or insoles that can give a little more height if needed.
The quickest and easiest way to find the perfect fit is to simply use a pen and paper. Place both feet (in your usual riding socks) on a piece of paper and carefully draw the outline of each foot. For a truer outline, make sure the pen is point straight down at all times!
Next, measure the lengths of both outlines from the top edge of your big toes down to back edge of your heel. If the measurements are different, take the longer size of the two and that is your size! Visit our Sizing Chart page to then find out what size boot you should order.
How to Choose the Right Motorcycle Boot Style for You
Essentially, this boils down to what bike you ride!
If you ride a sports bike, you would struggle to change gear if you were to wear a set of adventure off-road motorcycle boots, despite offering masses of protection. Touring boots may be waterproof and keep your feet warm but could get too sweaty if you attend summer track days.
You also need to think about whether you prefer to ride with
your trousers tucked into the boot as your focus should be based on the shin
protection; race boots tend to be wider at the top.
If you are shorter, be wary of boots with lots of plastic armour or the
adventure style motorbike boots with metal toe guards - these can easily
scratch your motorbike when mounting.
A good motorcycle boot should be flexible to walk about in and ride in but still be stiff enough to help prevent the worst if you were to have an accident. There are plenty of choices when it comes to the variety of colours, material, fastenings – whatever you ride, there will be the perfect style to suit you.
Checking the Fit is Right
Due to the leather used in most motorcycle boots, a new pair could be stiff to wear at first. Have a walk around the house in them first to get a feel and soften the leather a little, crouch as though you’re riding your motorbike to give an idea of how they will feel being worn in action.
If you find, after following all the available advice and taking your time getting the feel for them, that your new motorcycle boots from Superbike Factory are not the right size, there is a 30-day return policy.
